The Novodevichy Convent, in south-western Moscow, built in the 16th and 17th century style called Moscow Baroque, was part of a monastic complex which were included in the defense of the city. The monastery has been directly linked to the political, cultural and religious diversity of Russia, and closely linked to the Kremlin. It was used by women of the family and the aristocracy. The family of the Tsar and his entourage were also buried in the cemetery. The monastery is an example of the most important accomplishments of Russian architecture with rich interiors and an important collection of paintings and objects.
